Two Positions Available 

CareerONE is an employment based summer youth camp that takes place on one of the local college campuses. The camp population consists of at-risk youth between the ages of 14 and 17 from Stearns and Benton Counties. This camp offers voluntary track specific industries such as construction/manufacturing. These youth would then continue using the skills learned in CareerONE to advance to the CareerTWO Camp where they learn more in-depth about this career field. 

Team Leaders will:

  • Develop and prepare supplementary lessons and recommend curricula changes within the construction trades program as appropriate.
  • Establish clear objectives for all lessons, units, and projects. Creating and maintain a supportive classroom environment (behavior and surrounding) conducive to learning. Inform youth about course requirements, evaluation procedure, and attendance as well as other procedures.
  • Maintain accurate and complete youth records as required, including progress reports, attendance and counseling. Compile supporting documentation for reports, and perform other activities to support the program objectives.
  • Establish and enforce rules for behavior and procedures for maintaining order among the youths for whom they are responsible. Participate in youths’ disciplinary programs as required or requested. Counsel and motivate youths regarding behavior, training, personal and/or study habits and problems. Maintain accountability of youths, and property, adheres to safety practices, and performs safety inspections in classroom and construction lab area.
  • Provide progress and interim reports as required. Observe and evaluate youths’ work to determine progress and make suggestions for improvement.


Team Leader Time Requirement June 10 – August 13, 2021:

  • M – F, 40 hours/week
  • Rate of pay is $21.91/Hour
  • 14 teams consisting of 10-12 youth per team


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate Degree in Construction/Manufacturing or related field with minimum of 1 year experience working with youth/young adults paid or volunteer or;
  • Enrolled in an Associate’s Degree program, with the ability to work 40 hours per week with minimum of 1 year experience working with youth/young adults paid or volunteer or;
  • Construction background and experience needed;
  • 6+ years of progressive related experience beyond high school;
  • Ability to work independently, respectfully and positively with group of at-risk youth;
  • Ability to organize, coordinate, lead and coach a team;
  • Ability to make wise decisions in a crisis when necessary;
  • Ability to be a positive role model for participants;
  • Strong oral and written communication skills


Desirable Knowledge and Skills:

  • License to teach at 7 – 12 grade level;
  • Training in diversity, conflict resolution, communications, group process/group dynamics and youth development;
  • 3+ years of experience in the construction/manufacturing field
  • Ability to communicate with limited English language learners;  Knowledge of computer software programs;
